Born as Sylvan Hart, this was one of the neatest old characters to ever come out of the the United States Northwest backwoods.

And, "Bill" was a very close friend of mine. I’ve made many drawings of Buckskin, and this is the first print of him. There is a fine book about "Buckskin Bill", authored by Harold Peterson entitled “The Last of the Mountain Men,” published by Scribners.
